The Future of Our Combat Sheaths and Combat Combo Kits
I have had some questions about whether I am selling the Combat Sheaths and Combat MSK-1 Combo Kits anymore (since I took them off of the website).
The answer is, "YES!" I took these kits "down" temporarily because my manufacturer has NOT been able to keep up... and his promised delivery dates have not been kept. This has driven me CRAZY!
This makes me look bad (I'm tired of looking bad for no fault of my own) and makes you frustrated. So once we catch up on these - I will make these sheaths and combo kits available for sale.
We are making progress - but it will be a couple more weeks until these are available again.

"A few months back, I was casually looking for a more substantial knife to have on hand for the outdoors - and to be honest, I wasn’t specifically looking for a “survival” knife. I was looking for something that was robust and functional enough to perform a number of duties.

I've been working up in Northern British Columbia (as an aircraft maintenance engineer in remote areas) and along the Alaskan border, deep in grizzly bear country in the summer and in subzero temperatures in the winter. My MSK-1 and I have been inseparable since I've received it!
I spend a lot of time in little exploration camps on the tops of mountains in a tent. And usually in these areas the weather isn't all that great, so if you can't see you can't fly, so we land wherever we can. So it's not uncommon for us to spend the night out on a VERY remote mountain top in the middle of nowhere.
So I carry a little bit of my own gear, (the necessities due to weight restrictions) just in case. I definitely feel like I have what I need with the MSK-1 and if anything were to happen I'd be in pretty good shape having this for a survival tool!
As the holiday season has approached I took it up 3500' to mount Shorty near Stewart BC to harvest my Christmas tree for the season as I am spending it with the helicopters I work with and a lone pilot.
I finally managed to start a fire using the bow drill system thanks to your video tips and the MSK-1 bow drill spindle feature!
I'm not going to lie, it felt good and has been on my list of skills to accomplish for quite some time now!
Thanks again David for coming up with this awesome knife and having the best customer service out there! I'm a happy camper! And this knife is just simply ridiculous in the best possible way! I'm excited to see what comes next.

Short and Sweet Update Today...
Two Things. An update on shipping - for those still waiting for their MSK-1 kits - and YOUR "SECRET" PREVIEW of My Next Innovation - Coming Soon to Kickstarter (I promise you won't have to wait a year for this one ; ) - PHOTO BELOW -
FIRST the UPDATE...
I just got word from our manufacturing team that 70% of our MSK-1s will be done February 23rd. And the remaining 30% will be following shortly behind.
My plan is to drive to my manufacturer (if needed) either on the 23rd or the 26th to get the blades - depending on how the final steps go.
My goal is to have all remaining MSK-1s shipped by March 16th. That's the goal anyway. Just remember, Murphy's Law is always in play and I WILL get your your MSK-1 kit as soon as I can. I promise!
So if you are a praying person... please pray for my sanity to hold (this has been a rough season) and for a bit of a breakthrough in production so these puppies DO arrive here in the quoted timeframe. I want this to be my LAST MSK-1 Shipping Update!

Here’s a Brief Update:
I am still waiting for our next batch of MSK-1s (AKA your knife blade) to arrive here - so we can set up, and ship your kit out to you.
Unfortunately I have no control over the speed (or lack there of) of our manufacturing team (I'm sure this has become obvious to you guys at this point). Yes, I feel like a broken record.
Here's the Deal...
So, when our manufacturing team runs into issues / holiday shut downs / or anything that slows production (which seems to happen regularly), their ULTIMATE directive (from me) is,
“I need MSK-1 knives ASAP, but at the end of the day, perfection is of utmost importance. I want perfect MSK-1s. We can't have ANYTHING but perfect MSK-1s.”
Especially after they ruined over 30 knives in our last batch...
So, my fantastic (as far as craftsmanship and quality), but (so far) always late manufacturers, gave me this update (a few days ago) on January 11th, 2018:
“MSK-1s are now on our CNC grinding machine and will be there for the next 4-5 days, then tumbling, surface coating / treatments, laser marking, sharpening, inspection then shipping to David.”
When I add up all of these processes, I come up with about 3-4 more weeks until I have your MSK-1 HERE. Which honestly sucks! There, I said it...
My "happy baby" nature is to be positive... but I need to let you guys know that NO ONE is more frustrated that you have had to wait so long - and now a bit longer - than me.
I'm the one who answers every email. I'm the one who hears your excitement, anticipation (and at times), frustration.
I get it... and I once again - I apologize!
I have worked super hard, and done EVERYTHING that I can do - to get all the parts, pieces and blades here ASAP - to get your knives out to you...
So you can enjoy your MSK-1 as much as I (and hundreds of others - like Caleb) do.
All I need are MSK-1 blades...
I have neck knives, sheaths, handles, survival kits, nuts, bolts, boxes, Skittles (you heard me right) - and every other item is here - ready to ship. I just need MSK-1 blades.
So... Once I get your MSK-1/s in here, it will be "ALL HANDS ON DECK" for a week or two for us to clean, inspect, assemble, set up kits, package and ship all back-orders.
This puts us sometime before March for shipping your MSK-1.
I actually hate giving a date at this point... so can I just say...
"You are going to get your MSK-1 kit ASAP!!!"

I've been working up in Northern British Columbia (as an aircraft maintenance engineer in remote areas) and along the Alaskan border, deep in grizzly bear country in the summer and in subzero temperatures in the winter. My MSK-1 and I have been inseparable since I've received it!
I spend a lot of time in little exploration camps on the tops of mountains in a tent. And usually in these areas the weather isn't all that great, so if you can't see you can't fly, so we land wherever we can. So it's not uncommon for us to spend the night out on a VERY remote mountain top in the middle of nowhere.
So I carry a little bit of my own gear, (the necessities due to weight restrictions) just in case. I definitely feel like I have what I need with the MSK-1 and if anything were to happen I'd be in pretty good shape having this for a survival tool!
As the holiday season has approached I took it up 3500' to mount Shorty near Stewart BC to harvest my Christmas tree for the season as I am spending it with the helicopters I work with and a lone pilot.
I finally managed to start a fire using the bow drill system thanks to your video tips [see video below] and the MSK-1 bow drill spindle feature!
I'm not going to lie, it felt good and has been on my list of skills to accomplish for quite some time now!
Thanks again David for coming up with this awesome knife and having the best customer service out there! I'm a happy camper! And this knife is just simply ridiculous in the best possible way! I'm excited to see what comes next...

NEW Ultimate Survival Tips Gear coming in 2018... WHAT!!?
I have gotten a lot of questions about whether we are going to come out with any new MSK-1 or Ultimate Survival Tips knives or gear in the future.
The short answer is, "yes."
Here's the scoops...
MSK-1 GEAR
MSK-1 Neck Knife Sheath System - Paul Scheiter @ Hedgehog Leatherworks and I have been working on an sweet MSK-1 Mini Neck Knife sheath system. We are planning on having two versions available for sale sometime around February or March 2018.
MSK-1 Knife - Leather Sheath System - I am also working on what I believe may be the most versatile leather sheath system ever designed and it's - for the MSK-1 knife. If you are wondering, this is not with Paul. Paul and I started working on this, but got to a point where, what I wanted, was outside of the "sweet spot" niche' of Hedgehog's fantastic style and brand. So Paul and I are focusing on the neck knife sheath and may revisit the larger sheath in the future. For now and I am working with another great production designer on the big sheath and I'm stoked.
Handle Survival Kit - Version #2 - I'm working on a V2 of the MSK-1 handle survival kit. It will include one or two more components that will make it a totally stand-alone kit that you can just throw in a survival tin, wallet, pocket, glove box, or pouch and be ready with a sweet, low profile, light weight, last ditch kit that could save your life. This is pretty exciting.
Combat MSK-1: We've started development of a Combat / SERE version of the MSK-1. This is another cool project for Jeff and I. Prototypes will be field tested in real world situations and revised in 2018 with the hope of having a solid SERE MSK-1 by early 2019.
OTHER GEAR
Ultimate Camp Knife - I have conceptualized (what I think) is a very unique (maybe even the Ultimate) camping / utility / outdoor knife. There's a lot I CAN'T tell you about this one... just know that it will retain many of the superpowers of the MSK-1 but in a smaller package. And it looks REALLY cool. I can't stop looking at my sketches. The goal is to launch this knife system in late 2018 or sometime by mid 2019.
Ultimate Survival Card - In early to mid 2018, I'll be releasing a credit-card sized survival card that is unlike any that you have seen before (i.e. the popular "ReadyMan Card"). Again, I can't say much here... it's super top secret stuff... but the 3D printed prototypes are SWEET and pre-production prototypes will start rolling in for testing in January 2018.
Ultimate Survival Guide - For nearly 5 years I have been stewing on an idea for a VERY unique (never been done before) survival guide that will blow your mind. After the New Year I'll be full steam ahead into finishing it with content help and editing from my friend Craig Caudill - Author of, Extreme Wilderness Survival. I'm looking at releasing this "full-of-surprises" guide in the second or third quarter of 2018.
So... Why is this the first time I'm telling You about this NEW stuff?
I've been working on a lot of these items for quite some time, but I felt that I needed to "herd the MSK-1 cats" and get them "penned in" - MEANING... I wanted to get our MSK-1 customers taken care of first - and have all of our back orders shipped - before releasing anything new... and we're almost there.
Here's an update...
MSK-1 Delivery Update...
I just got word from our manufacturing team that they are progressing well but very "carefully" with our next batch of MSK-1s. Which will be ready soon, but not yet.
The last batch got rushed through a bit and we ended up losing about 15% of our knives (which hurt a LOT) during production.
This caused some of you (who have been waiting since this time last year) to have to wait a bit longer. Thank you for your patience. You won't regret it.
So the important thing here is getting these knives done perfectly with VERY little waste. And this is the first time our manufacturing team is producing the whole knife from scratch. So we WANT them to take their time and get every knife perfect.
The silver lining is that I've received countless stories from MSK-1 owners who have said, "David, the MSK-1 was worth the wait."
If you are waiting still, I have confidence you will feel the same.
So When Will YOU Get Your MSK-1 (If You're Still Waiting)...
The "carefulness" of our production team has put us more on track with our later shipping date... which will be closer to January 15th, 2018.
My hopeful expectation is to rally the troops HERE at Ultimate Survival Tips Central, between January 15th and February 1st and get these hundreds of MSK-1 knives and kits put together and shipped by February 7th, 2018. This is where we are at. And this is the plan. Unfortunately SHOT Show is the last full week of January (and myself and another key member of our team will be @ SHOT Show).
After this next shipment we should be all caught up and be shipping MSK-1s within days of being ordered - I HOPE!
At the same time as this current batch (that is in production), I have our next batch of MSK-1s in the pipeline behind it. As well as another batch of MSK-1 Mini Neck Knives.
By the time we hit Mid-February or March... we should then be able to ship MSK-1 Kits, within 3-5 days of receiving an order. I can't wait for that folks!!! I might even do a happy dance on Ultimate Survival Tips Facebook LIVE on a Friday :)
Once we're all caught up, I will then start releasing some MSK-1 kits for Top Magazines and YouTubers who want to review it.
Up until now I have NOT released any MSK-1s for review, because I was not going to keep ONE MSK-1 from any of you who have been waiting so patiently - AND - I did NOT want to generate more demand.
YOU are my #1 Priority! And getting you your MSK-1 kit trumps everything else.

I have also found that the knife and sheath are easy to clean and maintain [after hard use]. And your instructions for maintaining the MSK-1 are reasonable and quick.
